MARKUS SCHIRMER | QUARTETTO HENAO

2020-04-17 20:45:00

Schubert, Beethoven and Schumann on April 17th, 2020

A pied piper on the piano… music that comes straight from the heart, the mind and the fingertips”. This is how Austrian pianist Markus Schirmer has been defined; a performer that can use the instrument to tell the most vivid tales. His adoration of Schubert is equalled by his drive to explore new musical territory. Chamber music plays a fundamental role in his intensive concert schedule and this has led to his invitation to join the project in collaboration with “Le Dimore del Quartetto” association, involving a group with members from Colombia, Korea and Italy. Despite originating from three distant continents and each having a different culture and background, the four musicians of Quartetto Henao have succeeded in their ambitious goal of finding a single, original voice. The ensemble, formed in Rome in 2014, at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, continued its work at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena, and since 2018 has been at the Escuela Superior Reina Sofía in Madrid.

The pure virtuosity of Schirmer is accompanied by intellectual analysis, which sets him apart from many of the biggest names. Expressing the inner value of the music is infinitely more important to him than excessive demonstration of skill.

What most strikes one about Quartetto Henao is the psychological refinement in the way the four strings approach the musical text; Fully respecting the composer’s intentions... perhaps this is the most important quality in chamber music performance.
